Frequently Asked Questions About VELO: Intercom for Bicycle Riders
Does it interfere with the rider's hearing?
The VELO bicycle intercom is designed to not interfere with your hearing. The speakers hover outside your ears, allowing for full environmental awareness.
Can it be easily attached to a bike helmet?
Yes, like our ski helmet intercom, the VELO cycling communication system is designed for easy and straightforward mounting on almost any regular vented helmet. It comes with a specially designed mounting system that ensures a secure fit without the need for any complicated tools or modifications.
Great product, audio clarity excellent, light weight, great range. Not the easiest of instruction for installation on helmet - some larger coloured pictures would be appreciated along with additional fixing pieces in case of wrong placement.
However once installed product fantastic

Initial thoughts
Having an interview makes the world of difference being able to communicate with each other whilst riding and highly recommend having one. However, there are a couple of negative points:
- They are incredibly fiddly to get fitted and my partner because she stuck it wrong in the first place now finds it won't stay and constantly falls off so we are going to have to find a new sticky pad. Also doesn't fit her helmet well so will need to get a new one.
- I feel like I was slightly mislead regarding smartphone connection and listening to music. I thought you could listen to music and of the other person talks it would override the music. This is not the case. You cannot listen to music at all if both intercoms are turned on!
- Lastly, they aren't the most comfortable things in the world but I didn't notice it for long.
Otherwise, like I said at the start, it makes a world of difference from ting to shout at each other and not hearing. Surprisingly didn't hear any wind either despite it being a fairly windy day.

Recommend!
Very prompt delivery (a few days from SG to CH), DHL handled customs. Works as intended, no problem at 30 km/h. Just need to find the correct voice pitch/strength - quiet speaking is not transmitted (which is fine).
Can warmly recommend, this is useful and improves safety.

Vertix Velo Twin Pack
Service and delivery were fine. The product is expensive and the added duty of 73 euros for import into the EU was an unpleasant surprise. I knew there might be import duty to pay but was unable to find out beforehand how much it might be. It was disappointing that the transmitter and ear pieces did not fit easily on either of our helmets. The ear pieces had to be put on the outside rather than inside of the helmet and the transmitter doesn't sit flush against the hemets. I'm not sure why the wires for the left hand ear piece come out of the right hand side of the transmitter and vice versa resulting in the wires crossing each other. When eventually fitted it works very well enabling a conversation between us with no wind noise or interference whilst still being aware of other road traffic.

Excellent cycling intercom system
My wife and I recently bought the Vertix Velo "road biker" intercom system. Although it's quite expensive (particularly when you have to pay tax and customs duty when it arrives in the UK) in our opinion it's a fantastic system --- nothing short of transformational.
We bought the intercom system to improve communication between us when we're out on our bikes --- "Which way at this junction?" "Watch out for that van." Etc. --- and it certainly does that. What I hadn't expected is that as well as facilitating communication it also enables conversation. Before we had the intercom system, if I wanted to say something to my wife I had to wait until we were fairly close and then shout. Now I can just chat to her in a relaxed way, speaking at a normal conversational volume. It's absolutely brilliant. Rather than just getting our heads down and pedalling, with occasional shouted comments, we can chat away about all sorts of things --- interesting things in the fields we're cycling past, what we're having for tea that evening, where we might like to go on holidays, etc., etc.
In summary, although the Vertix Velo intercom system is expensive we regard it as being well worth the money.
By the way, buying and importing the system was very straightforward. Although I'd have been happy to sort out the pairing arrangements myself, the Vertix people did the set-up for us before sending it off (from Singapore, I gather) and the courier sent me an email about the tax and customs duty payment, which I was able to make via their web site. Simples! (as a well-known meerkat used to say).
